medical personalization

context and history

the osteoporosis consultation fracture pathway of the Fribourg Hospital (HFR) began its activities in January 2017. Since then, it has been striving to provide personalized medical follow-up for patients with osteoporosis, particularly those who have suffered fragility fractures.

in November 2020, the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF), through its CAPTURE the FRACTURE program, recognized the Fracture Liaison Service (FLS) of the HFR by awarding it the bronze level. This service is now an integral part of the rheumatology service of the HFR, highlighting its commitment to improving osteoporosis-related care Capture the Fracture - HFR Fribourg.

collaboration with other health institutions

the osteoporosis consultations at the HFR are part of a network of collaborative care pathways with several other health institutions, such as:

  • RésOS screening network

  • Geneva University Hospitals (HUG)

  • Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV)

  • Neuchâtel Cantonal Hospital

these collaborative pathways allow for an optimization of care for patients affected by osteoporosis, a condition often underdiagnosed and difficult to treat without early detection.

in summary

the osteoporosis consultations at the HFR and RésOS are part of a network of coordinated and specialized care, aiming to offer patients a personalized and effective medical follow-up. Goals: better management of fragility fractures and strengthened prevention of osteoporosis.

collaboration

personalized care

to improve the post or prehospital management of patients in osteoporosis consultations, the HFR (Fribourg Hospital) and RésOS have chosen to collaborate with OKenawa®. This collaboration aims to establish a regular physical activity, specifically adapted to the needs of people with osteoporosis.

OKenawa®: an original and adapted physical activity

OKenawa® offers a low-impact physical activity inspired by martial arts and the Alexander technique, designed to be gentle on the joints while being effective for muscle strengthening and bone density preservation. This activity is practiced in parallel with a specialized and regular medical follow-up, as well as a biological follow-up, conducted in partnership with the HFR hospital laboratory, accredited to international ISO 15189 standards.

a holistic approach

the movement restoration proposed by OKenawa® takes into account the individual needs of the participants. This approach combines medical, sports and scientific aspects to ensure measurable results, whether in terms of muscle strengthening, balance, and fall prevention (while minimizing injury risks).

the martial-type physical activity with the principles of the Alexander technique respects the unique motor skills of each person, adjusting:

  • the intensity and type of exercises

  • the duration of the sessions

  • the frequency of the sessions

in summary

the collaboration between the HFR, RésOS, and OKenawa® allows for comprehensive and safe care, combining physical activity and professional medical follow-up for people suffering from osteoporosis.
